Let's first discuss what a courthouse wedding is; couples will often choose a courthouse wedding here in Michigan for the ease of it. You used to be able to call up the courthouse and make an appointment to head in and have a judge perform a brief ceremony, sign your license and you were on your way. You could dress up or keep it casual. You could typically bring a few folks along with you or none if you wanted to truly elope. But the whole idea was that a courthouse wedding was:

However due to staffing and over abundance of cases and then darn Covid the courthouses stopped performing weddings or if they do them the waitlist can be months and it's only one a specific day! Not so simple and easy any more. 

Now, I will tell you that we offer a simple signing service which I'm thinking I should just rename courthouse wedding but so much better - anywho, what is our version of a signing aka courthouse wedding for our Michigan couples? 

We will set a date and time with you; could be any day and time that is convenient for all parties. At our meeting we will sign your marriage license, direct everyone else where to sign and then offer you a brief prewritten exchange of vows and rings (if ya have them) and of course pronounce you married! The best part is this can be done at quiet a few locations, we suggest: 

A park - your signing at a park makes for a beautiful backdrop
A restaurant - dinner, brunch or lunch you can sign and celebrate
A coffee shop - the super simple and easy and casual wedding day

Whatever you choose we are always happy to snap some pictures and do whatever it takes to make your courthouse wedding but not in a courthouse amazing and perfect for you!

I began my career as a wedding Officiant in 2007 when I did a favor for my younger sister. Okay, I do have actual advice for you on how to make sure you hire the best wedding Officiant for you. 

Let's first think about your wedding ceremony, what does it sound like to you, do you want your wedding ceremony to be personal and customized, do you want it to include your love story or tidbits about the two of you? Do you want to include a unity ceremony or specific readings or poems? Or perhaps your vision of your wedding ceremony is something more streamlined, short sweet and to the point. 

Now let's think about standing up there on your wedding day, the two of you are holding hands and smiling and there's this person standing with you - do you care if they are female, male, non binary? Do you want an Officiant who is an expert, a professional and can go with anything you throw at them? A Wedding officiant who can seamlessly draw your guests into the ceremony while moving about to allow the photographer to snap pics without them in the background? 

There's a few things to think about, yes of course budget is important. When hiring your wedding Officiant remember this person will be the very start of your wedding day festivities, they will lay the path to the celebration of your wedding. 

Hire a professional wedding officiant, someone who is comfortable with public speaking, with writing an amazing wedding ceremony and aware of just how you want your wedding day to go.
