FAQ - about A Simple I Do

  • How do we get a marriage license? Visit your local county clerk's office website for their specific instructions, each one works a bit differently. Generally speaking, 30 days before your wedding date you will apply for the marriage license, in most cases you will need your birth certificate, social security card and drivers license. 
  • What kind of services do you do? We perform very simple and stress free ceremonies. We can meet to simply sign your marriage license or we can do intimate wedding.
  • What does your wedding ceremony sound like? with the packages we offer it can be as minimal or elaborate as you like, that's the idea that we serve you and do what you wish on your wedding day, even if you don't know what that is, we'll help you figure stout. We always begin from a non religous voice and include warmth and love. We can personalize the ceremony to include your love story and reflect your personality. 
  • Where do you perform wedding ceremonies? We provide our intimate wedding services in Holly and Clarkston and the immediate surrounding areas. 
  • What makes it legal for you to performa a wedding ceremony? We are ordained via the Universal Life Church. Michigan law states those who are ordained may perform wedding ceremonies within the state of Michigan. 
  • Do you perform same sex or LGBTQ marriages? Yes we do, we strive to affirm all love LGBTQIA+ community is loved and welcomed here. ​
  • I don't want a big wedding That's why we exist. To serve any and all couples. From the simplest of weddings, we can meet at a coffee shop or restaurant and simply sign your license and exchange a simple I do to make it legal. 

MARRIAGE LICENSE HOW TO: 

Below is a list of links to the marriage application per county: We serve all counties but here's a few of the most requested.

​The following is required: (from the www.oakgov.com website)
1.  You must be 18 years of age to apply for a marriage application in Michigan.  Persons 16 and 17 years of age must show a certified copy of their birth certificate and have written consent of one parent or legal guardian, who must appear at the time of application with picture identification.
2.  For the purpose of marriage application, residency is determined by a current valid driver's license or state I.D.: 
  • If you are a Michigan resident, you must apply in the county where you live.  If both parties are Michigan residents, you may apply in either county.  The license is valid throughout the state. 
  • If both parties are out-of-state residents, you must apply in the county where you are going to be married. The license is valid in that county only.
3.  The following is required of both parties:
  • Valid driver's license or state ID showing current address. 
  • Birth certificate or valid passport.  If passport is used instead of birth certificate, full names of both parents and the state or country where they were born must be provided at time of application. 
  • Social Security numbers of both parties pursuant to MCL 551.102.
4.  Fee per couple: $20.00 for Michigan residents; $30.00 for out-of-state residents.
5.  Apply online AND make an appointment to pick up your marriage license. 
  • Your marriage license will expire 33 days from the date of application.  Do not apply if your ceremony will be held more than 34 days from today.​
